- Apply segments
Segments are an easy way to filter the data from Friendly Analytics by different criteria.
For example, you could evaluate how visitors from Switzerland perform in contrast to visitors from Germany. Or you want to know how visitors from a certain LinkedIn campaign have moved on your page? With segments you can find out.
Create segments
To create a new segment, click the segments button at the top and then select "Add new segment":
Example: only visitors from Switzerland
To display only page visits from Switzerland, select Visit Location > Country on the left and "Switzerland" on the right:
Example: LinkedIn traffic
To see only visits from LinkedIn, go to "Acquisition > Referral Name" and select "LinkedIn":
Example: Main domain vs. subdomains
If you want to track a main domain (e.g. site.ch) and a subdomain (e.g. xyz.site.ch) using one "website" in Friendly Analytics, you can evaluate the traffic for the main domain and the subdomain separately with segments.
Create a segment for the main domain and select "Behavior > Page URL" to start with the URL of the main domain:
For the subdomain, create a segment in the same way, with the page URL starting with the URL of the subdomain:
Example: multilingual websites
If you have a multilingual website, you can filter the traffic by language using the page URL:
Apply segments
After you created the required segments, you can select the segments in the dropdown that appears when clicking the Segments button:
When a specific segment is selected, the label of the segments button changes to the name of the segment. In the screenshot above the segment name is "German site".
Now ALL reports will only contain data that matches the filters set in the segment.
For example, in the sample above, we only see data from visitors who viewed the German language site.
